A Cross Country Move
Day Two
I’m 53 years old and doing it again. I’m getting divorced for the third time, packing up my life and moving across the country.
The first time was in Arizona in 1990. I walked out on a marriage that was less than a year old, a few days before my 22nd birthday.
The next time was in Minnesota in 1998. I had two little girls in the house, but my wife and I had been arguing a lot, and she chose to leave.
Here I am again, 25 years later, getting divorced and packing up to start again.
One of the greatest sisters ever has invited me to come be closer to family, in Texas, and I’m strongly inclined to do it. I lived in Texas before, for about two years, from 2000 to 2002.
I went and canceled my car wash membership. Cleaned out my closet and got together a bag of stuff to donate to the thrift shop. Went and looked up my destination in Texas and learned a little about it.
I was sitting in the chair in my little home studio, getting warm by a space heater in this unbelievably cold winter, and when I rubbed my hands together, I realized my wedding ring was missing.
I got up and looked for it, but could not find it. I lost some weight over the last couple years and it has been falling off my finger on occasion.
Such a coincidence that today was the day I lost it forever.
